Strictly Come Dancing reigning champion Rose Ayling-Ellis is just as excited as us for the new series, which is set to launch in less than a month.

The EastEnders actress won the glitterball trophy last year with Giovanni Pernice, becoming the first Deaf competitor on the show as well as the BBC programme’s first Deaf victor.

One of the pair’s most powerful performances was their Couple’s Choice routine, which saw them celebrate the Deaf community with a powerful moment danced in complete silence.

Reflecting on her time amongst the glitz and glamour of the ballroom, Rose revealed that she misses the ‘magical’ experience, but she can’t wait for this year’s series to begin.

‘I actually feel really excited to watch this year because now I can watch it knowing what they’ve experienced and what’s going through their minds,’ she shared, adding: ‘It will be quite a different way of watching.’

She continued to OK! Magazine: ‘And I can actually judge if they’re doing the right dance or not. I’ll be like a judge, I’ll have to get my own number paddle!’

Rose also commented that it was ‘an honour’ to become a spokesperson for the deaf community, despite ‘a little bit of pressure’ and ‘the big responsibility’ she feels.

‘So far, it’s been so much fun and I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and enjoying myself while being that spokesperson,’ she added to the publication saying: ‘It’s definitely happened very dramatically and quickly but now people want to learn more and that’s important to me.’

This comes after news that the 27-year-old has partnered up with Barbie to unveil the first doll with behind-the-ear hearing aids.

Strictly Come Dancing 2022 line-up in full

Elsewhere, Rose admitted it won’t be a strange feeling to watch Giovanni dancing with his new partner, and she’s actually glad the ‘focus will be on the new couple’ and off her.

Giovanni, who has been on Strictly since 2015, is rumoured to be a part of a same-sex pairing this year.

The line-up for this year’s competition was recently announced, with stars including Kym Marsh, Helen Skelton and Tony Adams joining the roster of celebrities.

Radio personality Richie Anderson is also among them, who said in a statement that it’ll be an ‘honour’ to be a part of the second all-male partnership on the show.

Giovanni recently said he was ‘more than ready to be partnered with a man’, saying: ‘It would give me a chance to challenge myself with new routines, you have to think more about it.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday, September 17.
