Dust off your tap shoes – Strictly Come Dancing returns for 2022 soon.

Now that we know who’s taking part, from presenter Helen Skelton to actor Will Mellor, we know who’s going to be judging (welcome back, Anton du Beke), the remaining question on everyone’s lips is: ‘When does Strictly start?’

The all-important date was spilt by AJ Odudu on Saturday’s Big Breakfast on Channel 4.

Here is everything you need to know about when Strictly will waltz back onto your TV screen.

On her Saturday morning breakfast show, AJ Odudu said: ‘We do have the exclusive that the launch of Strictly Come Dancing 2022 is gonna be September 17th, how exciting!’

She made the announcement alongside professional dancer Johannes Radebe, who made history with last year’s show as he danced in the first all-male coupling.

His partner was Bake Off’s John Whaite. The pair were runners up, coming second to champs Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

Johannes said about the show’s return: ‘We can’t face winter without Strictly, so I’m just happy it’s back on our screens.’

How long could Strictly 2022 go on for?

If past seasons are anything to go by, fans are looking at the show coming to a close around December 17 or 18.

Strictly 2021’s launch show was September 17 and the series came to a close on December 17.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Strictly, having first hit our screens in 2002, so the series could be a little longer than usual.

‘Dust off your dancing shoes, Strictly Come Dancing is back!’ they wrote in a recently-released statement.

‘The stunning 20th series returns, bringing glamour and show-stopping dancing back to Saturday nights on BBC One – and we’re extremely excited to be able to welcome an audience back to the studio for this year’s shows.’
