Kim Kardashian has been accused of going way, way over a strict water allowance at her sprawling Calabasas mansion, as the area ploughs through its third year of drought.

Hot on the heels of intense criticism over the use of private jets by the rich and famous for journeys easily done in a car, Kim was among stars also including Sylvester Stallone, Dwyane Wade and Kevin Hart, who were reportedly slapped with some of the 2,000 ‘notices of exceedance’ issued by the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District for substantially exceeding monthly water budgets.

When it came to Skims mogul Kim, two properties listed under a trust that were associated with the billionaire received notices after going over the June budget by about 232,000 gallons, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Kim’s mansion, which she used to share with former husband Kanye West, is surrounded my manicured lawns and trees, with the star also growing fruit and vegetables behind the house on an extensive patch.

According to documents quoted by the LA Times, Kim may now be among residents subject to the installation of flow restrictor devices, which could have an effect on shower pressure as well as use of lawn sprinklers.

However, Kim wasn’t the only star going against the strict budgets on H20 use, with a nearby 26-acre Calabasas property in the name of comedian Kevin going over its budget by 117,000 gallons, or, as per the records cited, about 519%.

Heck, she wasn’t even the only Kardashian, with sister Kourtney’s 1.86-acre nearby property reported to have gone over by 101,000 gallons, according to documents.

Despite some of its biggest residents allegedly going over their budget (which is determined by the size of the property and the number of individuals living in the household), Las Virgenes spokesman Mike McNutt said this time last year residents were using about 261 gallons per person per day, while in June this year the average daily residential use was down to 170 gallons.

And while they, too, were issued a notice about excessive water use, after Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency last year, Dwyane and wife Gabrielle Union said they have taken steps to address water wastage on their $18million (£15m) Hidden Hills property, including sorting out issues with their pool, which resulted in leakage.

They said in a statement: ‘We have been doing everything we can to rectify the situation and will continue to go to extensive lengths to resolve the issue. We have replaced all parts of our pool system that [have] to do with water flow and leakage in addition to converting to synthetic grass and drought tolerant plants to reduce our water usage. We will continue to work with the city and the water distribution company to make sure this isn’t an issue moving forward.’

When it came to Sylvester, the action star’s lawyer insisted water usage at his 2.26-acre Hidden Hills property – which the publication said records show was 230,000 excess gallons, or 533% more than its allocated budget – was down to needing to keep trees on the property alive.

In a statement also provided to the publication, Marty Singer said the numbers could ‘mischaracterise and misrepresent the situation regarding the water usage at my client’s property’, adding: ‘They have more than 500 mature trees on the property, including innumerable fruit trees as well as pine trees. Absent adequate watering, in all likelihood they would die. That could result in dead or damaged trees falling on my client’s property or neighboring properties.’

Sylvester Stallone’s rep also said the Rocky star was addressing the situation (Picture: Andreas Rentz/Getty Images)

He also noted the Rocky star has been ‘addressing the situation responsibly and proactively’ including letting the grass die, while watering other areas with a drip irrigation system.

It comes amid tightened restrictions in the UK, as well, with drought officially declared for more than half of England earlier this month, and parts of the UK facing water restrictions and hose pipe bans.
