Loose Women viewers had strong opinions over Denise Welch’s previous encounter with a fox.

During Tuesday’s installment of the daytime show, the 64-year-old TV personality discussed whether it was appropriate to befriend foxes alongside co-hosts, Christine Lampard, Coleen Nolan and Linda Robson.

Reflecting on her personal experience with the mammals, Denise said: ‘At the risk of incurring the wrath of animal lovers… I am an animal lover, but foxes are vermin.

‘Years ago, we’d got home and we had a dog called Pip. Pip was the most lovely, gorgeous dog. Anyway, this fox had got into the kitchen and attacked Pip,” Denise explained.

‘Pip was terrified, shaking, foaming at the mouth. The fox had gone behind the fridge, Lincoln had called the Pest Control people and they destroyed the fox.’

The presenter later explained that the last time she told the story she was hurled with ‘insults and abuse’ on social media.

Christine replied: ‘I guess that the people that were having a bit of a moan to you would have maybe suggested just take the fox taken out of the kitchen and not have it destroyed…”

‘It was the fact that Pip was in a really, really bad way, the fox was a danger to my dog as far as I felt,’ Denise remarked.

Denise’s comments didn’t go down too well with Loose Women viewers, with one writing: ‘Denise: “I’m an animal lover, but foxes are vermin”. Well then, your not an animal lover are you.’

‘Foxes are beautiful animals They aren’t pets but they aren’t enemies either #LooseWomen,’ another added.

I was channel hopping then heard ‘fox’ so my curiosity was piqued.
She then went on to quote the 10 year old story about a fox attacking a baby. Still don’t believe that happened. What a cruel woman totally lacking in compassion! Could have been a vixen looking to feed cubs.

Foxes are not “vermin”. They’re wild animals. #loosewomen

Denise, that fox was a wild animal that you had ‘destroyed’ as a punishment. And you’re surprised people object to your values. Give your head a wobble #LooseWomen

Elsewhere during today’s show, the panel discussed whether women should wear ‘period badges.’

‘We are luckily in a world where we talk about these things and nobody is afraid of talking about it.

‘But wearing a badge that says “I’m premenstrual” is basically saying “I’m a cranky old cow, give me a seat on the bus.”‘

‘I certainly wouldn’t stand up for someone on their period,’ she added.’
