Sylvester Stallone has opted for quite the change to his tattoos, covering up a loving tribute to his wife Jennifer Flavin with none other than his iconic character Rocky’s bull mastiff.

The actor, who famously starred as boxer Rocky Balboa in the 1977 flick and its sequels, previously had a huge picture of his wife Jennifer’s face on his right bicep. The pair have been married since 1997.

However, this week he was pictured visiting his tattoo artist, Zach Perez, who covered up Jennifer’s face with that of Butkus – Sly’s dog who starred in the first two Rocky films.

A rep for Sly shut down any rumours about the pair’s marriage, telling MailOnline: ‘Mr. Stallone intended to refresh the tattoo image of his wife Jennifer however the results were unsatisfactory and, unfortunately, unfixable,’ she said.

‘As a result, he had to cover the original image with a tattoo of his dog from Rocky, Butkus.

‘Mr. Stallone loves his family. The Stallones are presently filming a reality show together which will debut on Paramount+.’

In 2017, the actor shared the story of how Butkus came to live with him, revealing that he ‘relied on his companionship’ but was when things ‘got really bad’, he was forced to sell him for $40 (£34) so as he could afford food.

After the screenplay for Rocky sold, Sly went to buy him back and was charged $15,000 (£12,000) – but described him as ‘worth every penny’.

Of course, Sylvester then ensured Butkus got his own role in the first two Rocky films, making a Hollywood star of the pup.

Butkus died in 1981 but now it seems he’s been immortalised forever.

Earlier this year, Sly and Jennifer celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, with the actor posting a sweet photo on Instagram.

‘Happy 25th anniversary to my amazing wife,’ he wrote.

‘There is not enough words to describe what this incredibly selfless dedicated , patient, woman has meant to our lives and I only wish they could be another 25! Thank you sweetheart! [sic]’.

He had been married twice before – first to Sasha Czack, with the pair welcoming their sons Sage, who tragically died in 2012, and Seargeoh.

He went on to marry Brigitte Nielsen, and then tied the knot with Jennifer, who he shares daughters Sistine, Scarlet, and Sophia with.
