It’s a sad day for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) fans as Kelli Giddish confirmed her exit from the show.
The 42-year-old has starred as Detective Amanda Rollins in the NBC drama for more than a decade, making her debut as the iconic character in 2011.
However, she has now confirmed that she will be leaving the role behind in the upcoming 24th season, leaving us all devastated.
Addressing speculation surrounding her departure, she shared a statement on her Instagram page, which read: ‘I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on Law & Order: SVU.
‘Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years.
‘There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well.

‘I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.’
Kelli also took a moment to thank those on set and behind-the-scenes for an incredible 12 years.
‘I want to thank Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, Warren Leight, Peter Jankowski, NBC, Universal Television, all of my co-stars, every single member on the crew and all the writers here for our incredible work together these last 12 years,’ she continued.
‘I’m so excited to take all the things I have learned in my time on SVU and put them toward everything that’s next to come…. #SVU.’

SVU viewers instantly flooded her comments section with praise for the actress, sharing their devastation at her departure.
‘Kelli I’m so sad,’ one commented. ‘You’re the best part of the show. ik you’ll go on to do bigger and better things though! [sic].’
‘Sad to see you go Good luck on what ever the future holds,’ another agreed.
‘We will miss you so so much, but I can’t wait to see what comes next for you,’ a follower penned.

We’ll get a look at Kelli’s exit when the new series kicks off on September 22, on NBC.
She joined Law & Order: SVU all the way back in 2011, and became an instant hit with fans.
The Good Wife star is no stranger to the L&O universe and had previously guest starred on the program previously.
