Simon Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent spin-off show, BGT Extreme, has reportedly been axed following Jonathan Goodwin’s horrific accident which left him paralysed.
Jonathan, who rose to fame on the 2019 series of Britain’s Got Talent, suffered from an accident during a stunt last year, which subsequently left him in a wheelchair.
The daredevil, who’s engaged to Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, suffered life-changing injuries following the accident, which happened when he was rehearsing for America’s Got Talent: Extreme in October 2021.
He had been performing a stunt in which he would hang upside down 30 feet in the air between two suspended cars and escape from a straitjacket. However, the cars were released too early and he was crushed between them as they caught on fire.
Now, the show he was practising for has reportedly been axed.
According to The Sun, the talent show has been ‘quietly shelved by NBC amid complications with insurance.’

A source revealed to the publication: ‘Simon is constantly looking at ways to revamp his shows and AGT: Extreme had a number of difficulties.
‘Obviously the goal is to make edge-of-your-seat TV but it has to be done as safely as possible.
‘Insurance was proving difficult, which threw a spanner in the works. Jonathan’s incident during rehearsals was harrowing.’
The insider added that while Jonathan was a ‘total professional,’ ‘things went wrong,’ leaving Simon ‘horrified’.
‘He’s now focused on other projects,’ the source added of the media mogul.
The news follows reports that one of Simon’s other shows, The X Factor, is set to return on Channel 5.

The annual talent series – which saw a number of rotating stars on the judging panel including Robbie Williams, Cheryl, Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh – was scrapped by ITV in July 2021.
According to reports, Simon has struck a deal with Channel 5, as a source said: ‘As soon as X-Factor was up for grabs, there was interest from a number of the networks.’

The insider continued to The Daily Star: ‘X Factor is one of the most iconic shows in TV history, so it’s no surprise lots of channels were keen. The production company had their pick.
‘After a lot of meetings, execs decided to go with Channel 5.’
