Rose Ayling-Ellis has suggested there’s ‘no truth’ in the rumours that she’s been cast as the new Doctor Who companion alongside Ncuti Gatwa’s time lord.

The EastEnders star has been at the centre of speculation after she left the BBC soap and started following returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, as well as actor Ncuti, and even casting director Andy Pryor, on Instagram.

Maybe she’s just a fan and it’s all coincidence – but fans were pretty convinced.

Speaking out on the rumours for the first time, Rose told Sky News: ‘I have no idea where that got started! A rumour just spread.’

However, she couldn’t resist adding: ‘That sounds like a really great job.’

Asked if there’s ‘no truth’ in the rumours or if she’s just being coy, Rose, 27, went on: ‘There’s no truth, i think it was a rumour that started last week on Twitter and it’s just got bigger and bigger and now it’s everywhere!’

If you say so, Rose…

Former EastEnders star and Strictly winner Rose is, by far, the most popular guess at the moment thanks to a few clues, including her leaving the BBC soap and her new intriguing Instagram followers, which include showrunner Russell.

Nicola Coughlan was previously forced to deny rumours that she was the new companion, explaining that she and Ncuti are working on something together, but not the sci-fi.

Jodie Whittaker will step down as the 13th Doctor this autumn in a special for the BBC’s centenary celebration.

Ncuti will take over – although there’s been speculation that it will be by way of David Tennant, after it was announced that he and Catherine Tate would be returning for the 60th anniversary.

Showrunner Russell, who rebooted the sci-fi in 2005, will also return for his second run at the show.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One this autumn.
