It’s been confirmed that The Umbrella Academy will end with season 4, and it’s safe to say fans aren’t handling the news well.

The show has aired on Netflix since its premiere in 2019, having been renewed for a fourth season this month after the release of season 3 in June.

However, it’s now been announced that the next batch of episodes will be the final outing for the superpowered family.

In a post shared on social media, the official account for The Umbrella Academy wrote: ‘Family meeting, Brellies: We’re going on a fourth and final adventure.’

The announcement was accompanied by an image of an umbrella, with the number ‘4’ inside, with the caption: ‘The final season.’

As can be expected, fans haven’t taken the news of The Umbrella Academy’s imminent end at all well, with one tweeting in response that they were ‘sobbing’.

‘I’ll miss my chaotic family ☂️🖤 …but I’m so happy we are getting another season!’ another person wrote.

‘Final?’ someone else wrote in shock at the news.

They continued: ‘I hope you know we are very excited but also sad it’s gonna be our last nonetheless we appreciate you and always will. It’s gonna be a good 4th season.’

The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series of the same name by My Chemical Romance lead vocalist Gerard Way, follows a group of extraordinary individuals who are adopted by an eccentric millionaire after all being born on the same day around the world.

The man in question, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, (Colm Feore), adopts seven children in total, who he names by numbers and turns into the crime-fighting Umbrella Academy.

Fast-forward to the present day, and the remaining adopted siblings have grown up to become adults leading very separate lives, but are brought together by the mysterious death of their father in season one.

Season two saw the siblings transported back to the 1960s, after failing to prevent an apocalyptic event in their present day.

However, they face yet another impending world-ending event, and must band together in order to return to their normal lives.

Their return to normality doesn’t go smoothly in season three, as they discover that their present day is now an alternate reality, where their father Sir Reginald is still alive and has formed the Sparrow Academy.
