Welcome To Wrexham tells the story of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s purchase of Wrexham AFC, but who is their friend and representative Humphrey Ker?

The new six-part documentary follows Ryan, 45, and Rob, 45, on their mission to buy the football team who are in the fifth tier of English football.

Despite having never met, the duo took the plunge and won over the supporter’s fan Trust, who unanimously accepted their proposals.

However, with the pair both based in America, Rob’s pal Humphrey has stepped up to act as their eyes and ears at the club when they can’t be present.

Here’s everything you need to know about the club’s executive director.

Humphrey, 39, British actor, writer and comedian, and as it happens, a huge football fan.

He was educated at Eton College, and read history at the University of Edinburgh.

He first rose to fame after becoming a member of the sketch comedy troupe, The Penny Dreadfuls, alongside friends David Reed and Thom Tuck, formed in 2006.

They performed their Victorian sketch shows across Britain, including at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Ker has since taken a variety of acting roles, as well as performing solo shows at the hit festival and now has a supervising role at Wrexham AFC.

He currently appears in the Apple TV+ original show, Mythic Quest, which was co-created by his wife, Megan Ganz, as well as Rob, who he is a close friend of.

Ker was a regular in the improvisational comedy show Fast and Loose, hosted by Hugh Dennis in early 2011.

Later that year, he appeared as part of the 24-Hour Panel People charity show hosted by David Walliams for Red Nose Day 2011, in the Whose Line Is It Anyway? section.

He has also appeared on 8 Out of 10 Cats, and in August 2013, on the show’s crossover with Countdown.

In February 2021, he was announced as Executive Director at Welsh football club Wrexham AFC following the takeover by the acting stars.

It came after he himself had expressed an interest in buying the club himself, and got McElhenney interested in the game in the first place.

Ker will work with board advisors as McElhenney and Reynolds’ voice on the ground in Wrexham and features heavily in the documentary.

He told The Leader: ‘The number of posters I have seen all over the place in Los Angeles and then on my way here, I am really excited. I just hope people take to it as we have. It’s a lot of fun.

‘Rob and Ryan are both people who take their businesses very seriously but don’t take themselves very seriously. I think you will see that kind of blend in the documentary.’

He liaises between the A-listers and Fleur Robinson, who is CEO of Wrexham’s ground, The Racecourse, and Shaun Harvey, strategic adviser to the board.

Is Humphrey Ker on Instagram?

Yes, Humphrey is on Instagram and can be followed on the username @humphreyker.
