Anne Hathaway is set to star in the film adaptation of a popular fan-fiction book inspired by Harry Styles, The Idea of You.

Based on Robinne Lee’s hit 2017 debut novel of the same name, the movie, which will be aired on Prime Video, will see the 39-year-old actress in the lead as Sophie, a 40-year-old divorced mother whose husband left her for a younger woman, according to Deadline.

After he cancels a trip with their 15-year-old daughter to Coachella, Sophie steps in and takes the teenager to the festival where she meets 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the world’s hottest boy band August Moon. 

Hayes is loosely based on Harry and August Moon is loosely based on One Direction.

However, while the Watermelon Sugar singer’s connection to the book is what has excited fans, the author is determined to point out that the focus of the story should be Sophie’s journey with ageing and ‘rediscovering herself’.

‘This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,’ Robinne previously told Vogue.

‘It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.’

When asked if Harry was the inspiration behind the book, Robinne said: ‘Inspired is a strong word…

‘A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy [Harry] I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise.

‘It was like…art,’ she said in a 2017 interview with blogger Deborah Kalb.

‘I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.’

The film will be produced by Robinne alongside Anne, director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Dropout), Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Kian Gass, Eric Hayes, Jordana Mollick.

Jennifer Westfeldt will executive produce and write the script.

The book, which has been called a ‘sleeper hit’, has seen sales increase every year since its release and also experienced a 20% rise in sales in 2019.
