The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s new podcast Archetypes has climbed to the top of the UK and US podcast charts – ahead of The Joe Rogan Experience.
The podcast only premiered two days ago with its debut episode, but it has already attracted enough listeners to dethrone the controversial commentator.
In the US and UK, as well as Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, Archetypes is at the top of Spotify’s charts at time of writing.
Rogan, 55, has consistently held the top spot on the podcast charts for the last three years, even amidst accusations of spreading Covid misinformation.
But Markle, 41, looks ready to consistently challenge Rogan with Archetypes, which will explore the ways in which language has been used against women throughout history.
In the first episode, Markle spoke to tennis legend Serena Williams about the how the word ‘ambitious’ has been used as a pejorative label against female sports stars.

The conversation with the 23-time Grand Slam winner was enough to see Archetypes beat out not only The Joe Rogan Experience but also the official podcast for new HBO series House of the Dragon.
The deal signed between Markle, her husband Prince Harry, and Spotify has been estimated to be worth $15-18 million (£12-15m).
Harry makes an appearance during Markle’s conversation with Williams, during which Williams explains her decision to retire from the professional game.

The Joe Rogan Experience hit the headlines during the Covid-19 pandemic when legendary musicians Joni Mitchell and Neil Young removed their music from Spotify in protest against Rogan’s show.
The production company co-owned by Markle, Archewell Audio, also released a statement earlier this year criticising Rogan’s behaviour.

‘Our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of Covid-19 misinformation,’ the statement read.
Rogan’s show is estimated to pull in 11million listeners for each episode, and has consistently been one of Spotify’s most popular products.
However, more than 100 episodes of the podcast were removed after complaints were made about language Rogan used in the past.

Rogan was accused of using racial slurs and unfavourably comparing predominantly black American neighbours to the Planet of the Apes film series.
With more episodes on the way, Markle will be hoping to stay ahead of the man who once referred to her as a ‘little American hussy’.
