The Married At First Sight UK hosts have opened up about how ’emotional’ the series is, and the impact this is having on them, ahead of the 2022 series launching on Channel 4 in a matter of days.

While the show brings all the drama we can ask for, sometimes it can be too much for the hosts.

Charlene Douglas, one of the experts alongside Paul C Brunson and Mel Schilling, revealed going to therapy to ‘separate’ the show from her real life.

‘I go to therapy – for me it’s easy to separate the two, I love working with couples and I love what I do and I think it’s the most beautiful thing to help couples to move forward and progress,’ she shared.

Charlene added to The Sun: ‘That said it can be emotionally taxing, so it’s important for me that when I come back home I am back to reality with my family, friends and dog because that keeps me sane and that’s so important. That way you’ll get a better version of me when I am back on set with the couples.’

Paul also admitted to going to ‘therapy constantly’.

Mel previously shared that sometimes she finds it really ‘hard’, when the couples don’t last, as she cares about them so much.

‘I’m sitting there with real human beings and I come to care about them,’ she shared, adding: ‘So when things go Rocky I really feel it and I find it hard.’

She also admitted that she does actually have ‘favourites’ on the series.

When asked by Christine whether she has favourites, Mel replied: ‘It’s a bit like asking someone if they have a favourite child… but yes!’

Mel first joined MAFS in 2016 on the Australian version of the show, joining the UK edition last year.

Married At First Sight UK returns to E4 at 9pm on Monday, August 29.
