Ed Sheeran and Bring Me Horizon surprising fans during each other’s performances is ironically becoming a good habit.

Reading Festival came to a close on Saturday evening with Bring Me The Horizon co-headlining the music event at Richfield Avenue with Arctic Monkeys.

The rock band delivered a show-stopping 15-song set with tracks including Can You Feel My Heart, sTraNgeRs, Happy Song, Teardrops, with Throne sending fans on their merry way as the final song.

However, BMTH had a surprise up their sleeve for the encore, introducing a certain pop superstar to the stage.

Frontman Oli Sykes told the audience: ‘Can you make some noise from Ed Sheeran,’ before the crowd erupted into screams.

The Thinking Out Loud crooner then arrived on stage with a huge smile before launching into BMTH’s rock-pop remix of his 2021 chart-topping single Bad Habits.

‘That set from BMTH was insane! One of the best gigs ever! @leeds your have to watch this tomorrow!’ one fan praised.

Another agreed and hailed it a ‘superior BMTH collab’.

One fan, who got a good view of the stage on the ground at Reading Festival, tweeted: ‘Okay so watching and partying with BMTH at Reading Festival and fucking Ed Sheeran walks out on stage. Such a surreal moment.’

It’s the second time Ed, 31, and BMTH have shared the stage together, with the band surprising viewers at the Brit Awards in February with the first performance of their Bad Habits remix.

Oli, 35, previously told Metro.co.uk that performing with Ed was just as much a surprise for him as the fans.

‘Not in a million years would we have thought something like this would come along,’ the singer admitted shortly after the epic Brits moment.

Reflecting on the performance, he added: ‘We took it in our stride, banged out the music and the whole thing was a blur to be honest.

‘It was really cool to see what it’s like at that level. I don’t think we’d be opening up the Brits otherwise. We thrive off doing stuff that other people wouldn’t expect us to do.’

Oli also teased that he would be getting matching tattoos with Ed to commemorate the moment, saying: ‘I remember when we were backstage and Ed was getting changed out of his suit and I didn’t realise he had as many, he’s like fully covered. I don’t know if he told me and I read he gets his tattoos in different countries or for different memories so you never know when we start working together on music.’

He then joked: ‘The problem is I don’t drink anymore and the thing is you usually get them once you’ve had a few but I’ve got that many tattoos that I’m like, what’s one more?’

Reading Festival will continue tonight with The 1975 headlining, while Arctic Monkeys and Bring Me The Horizon will move onto Leeds Festival.
