If there’s one person who knows how to do a red carpet look, it’s Lil Nas X and he did not hold back at the 2022 VMAs.
The Call Me By Your Name hitmaker pulled out all the stops for his look this year, capturing everyone’s attention in the most incredible feathered headdress.
Posing up a storm for cameras before cooping several awards that night, the rapper showed off his bare chest as his headpiece and matching hooped dress did all the talking.
Designed by Harris Reed, the ensemble was nothing short of fabulous and ensured all eyes were on the Old Town Road singer as he made his entrance.
British-American fashion designer Harris – who is known for his work with stars including Harry Styles and Beyoncé – said they were ‘honoured’ to dress Lil Nas for the event, praising him as a ‘true queer icon’ and someone who is ‘brave, daring, loud’ and a person they look up to.
According to People, Lil Nas described his outfit as ‘something fresh, something new’, adding that his ensemble was also rather ‘heavy’, and we have no doubts about that.

Following a successful night, Lil Nas – real name Montero Lamar Hill – changed from the sequin trousers and elaborate headgear into a black cut-out dress with silver ring detailing.
He paired the frock with a pair of killer chunky boots as he beamed on the carpet, cradling his moonperson.
Lil Nas had plenty of reasons to celebrate following this year’s MTV VMAs as his collaboration with Jack Harlow took home several trophies.

Released in July last year, Industry Baby quickly became a hit as the third single from Lil Nas’ debut album.
Co-produced by Kanye West, the music video, which is prison-escape themed, scored the first award of the night for best collaboration.
Industry Baby went on to win two more gongs for best art direction and best visual effects.

This year’s nominations meant there was a three-way tie for most nods between Lil Nas, Jack, and Kendrick Lamar.
Jack – who took to the stage with Fergie – was also a winner in his own right, as First Class scooped the trophy for song of the summer thanks to its viral success on TikTok.

Elsewhere during this year’s ceremony, Johnny Depp returned with a surprise virtual appearance following his recent legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Taylor Swift also dropped the bombshell of her 10th studio album, while Harry Styles became the only Brit to win a moonperson, accepting his award via video message while he continues his 15-date Madison Square Garden residency.
