Married At First Sight UK fans will be delighted to see Mel Schilling back as one of the relationship experts for the second year in a row – but who is she married to?

The E4 favourite finally returns with an explosive series debut following more singletons about to take the plunge into marriage, without ever having met.

Alongside Mel, Charlene Douglas and Paul C Brunson are back to help the newlyweds navigate their newfound wedded bliss.

The latest line-up of 16 singles has been announced and includes two same-sex couples, one of which is the show’s first-ever lesbian couple.

This series is said to be ‘bigger and more dramatic than ever’ according to producers, but some fans also want to know the relationship history of the show’s experts.

Here’s everything you need to know about Aussie queen Mel’s own marriage.

Mel Schilling has been a romance coach on the explosive Aussie edition of Married At First Sight since 2016, and was drafted in last year to help with the UK version.

The upcoming series of MAFS UK will be Mel’s 10th time at the rodeo, her second series in the UK after being a staple therapist for eight series in Australia.

Mel is married to her husband Gareth Brisbane, who is originally from Northern Ireland. They married on December 24, 2020.

Gareth runs an online betting business, and the pair are parents to seven-year-old daughter Maddie, who was conceived with the help of IVF.

Mel gave birth to her first child at the age of 42 and moved her young family to Brighton last year to be able to film the show which matches contestants together with the help of science.

Talking about how the pair met, she told OK! Magazine last year: ‘I was single for my entire thirties. I wasn’t interested in anyone. I was busy travelling the world, and working overseas, I was all about building my business and just living a great life.

‘We were both nearly 40 when we met, and he just turned my world upside down. I was not expecting that! We met on [dating website] eharmony. He’s from Whitehead in Northern Ireland, but he was living in Adelaide, and I was in Melbourne.

‘We did long distance for six weeks, which was really pivotal in the success of our relationship because we didn’t physically meet for those six weeks, but we were communicating every day. And it was mostly email and next – I couldn’t talk to him on the phone at first, because I couldn’t understand his accent!’

Married At First Sight returns tonight at 9pm on E4.
