Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray has spoken out in fierce defence of Meghan Markle after her new bombshell interview.

The TV presenter has a very different approach to the former senior royal than former GMB host Piers Morgan, who never missed an opportunity to rip into the actress.

In fact, as Piers branded the mum-of-two ‘shameless and shameful’ on Monday night, Tuesday morning saw Adil defend the star and point the finger at the press for victimising her.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, Adil pressed a Newsweek journalist about the press’ reaction to Meghan’s newest interview, in which she spoke about the racism she – and her children – faced

GMB guest, Newsweek’s Jack Royston sympathised with Meghan but said she and Harry ‘need to tread carefully’ when they speak out and ensure they are being clear about what they mean rather than being ambiguous.

However Adil hit back: ‘Here we are talking about racism and we’re telling the victim to get her words right, rather than talk about the press.’

Referencing come of the headlines that have come out about Meghan since she began dating Harry, Adil went on: ‘Let’s face it, in the early days it was Harry’s Girl: Straight Out Of Compton.

‘They talked about her ‘exotic’ DNA. To speak to a Black woman about what ‘exotic’ means, to a Black woman, it’s probably one of the worst things you can possibly say.

‘She was blamed for the drought and murder in Mexico because she liked avocadoes!’

Agreeing with Adil, Chief Royal Correspondent Jack said: ‘You’re absolutely right that nothing has been done about it.

‘Racism is a very contentious area within press regulation because it’s very difficult t bring racism complaints through the press regulator.

‘There’s a huge public interest debate that needs to be had around the media and racism, and I think we’re going to get a lot more of this in Harry’s memoir.’

Piers, of course, had a different take as he raged following the interview’s release.

‘Even by Markle standards, this is a revoltingly self-aggrandising, disingenuous & hypocritical load of royal-bashing tosh,’ he said.

‘The Mandela anecdote alone had me gagging. How dare she use her title to keep trashing the institution that gave it to her? Shameless & shameful.’

Piers, unsurprisingly, had a different reaction to the interview (Picture: PA)

The host was referring to a moment in the interview where Meghan said a Lion King cast member from South Africa told her: ‘When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison.’

Elsewhere in the same interview with The Cut, Meghan alleged her children had been branded the N-word.

Discussing the practice of information regarding the royals and their families being distributed to news outlets, Meghan appears to accuse the press of using the N-word to describe her child.

She told the magazine: ‘There’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota.’

Meghan continued: ‘Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?

‘You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.’

It’s unclear if she was referring to one or more people and whether she was referencing news organisations or the royal’s own press machine.

The vague remarks could also be a reference to commenters on Instagram.

Meghan also said that, ‘just by existing,’ she and Harry were ‘upsetting the dynamic’ of the monarchy, and were ‘happy’ to leave the UK for another Commonwealth country – however they were not allowed.

‘That, for whatever reason, is not something that we were allowed to do, even though several other members of the family do that exact thing,’ she claimed.

When pressed, she declined to speculate on why they had not been permitted to do so.
