Should your kids watch The Rings Of Power? We’ve got answers (Picture: Prime Video)

Lord Of The Rings TV show The Rings Of Power is almost here, but is it suitable for children to watch?

Given the levels of sex and violence in fellow fantasy series Game Of Thrones, many parents will be wondering whether it’s okay to let their kids tune into the action of the most expensive show ever made.

Prime Video has officially given The Rings Of Power a maturity rating of 13 plus.

This means parents are strongly cautioned because some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.

Executive producer Patrick McKay previously said that the show is appropriate for children over the age of 11.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he explained the goal was ‘to make a show for everyone, for kids who are 11, 12, and 13, even though sometimes they might have to pull the blanket up over their eyes if it’s a little too scary.’

‘We talked about the tone in Tolkien’s books,’ he continued.

‘This is material that is sometimes scary—and sometimes very intense, sometimes quite political, sometimes quite sophisticated—but it’s also heartwarming and life-affirming and optimistic.

‘It’s about friendship and it’s about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming great darkness.’

The Rings Of Power stars His Dark Materials’ Morfydd Clark and Game of Thrones’ Robert Amarayo as elves Galadriel and Elrond during the Second Age of Middle-Earth.

It is based on the appendices of JRR Tolkien’s The Lords of the Rings novels, as well as The Silmarillion, Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle-Earth.
