The Chase contestant Dan, who made history winning the largest sum ever on the ITV quiz show, has spoken about he plans on splashing the £80,000 cash.

Dan took a risk on the long-running programme, presented by Bradley Walsh, after his teammates Annabelle, Toby and Sarah were swiftly knocked out.

Figuring he had ‘nothing to lose’, Dan took a leap of faith when he was offered £80,000, after managing to get £5,000 in his cash builder, by chaser Jenny.

Dan sailed through the head-to-head, and in the Final Chase, got 17 steps ahead of The Vixen, ultimately beating her when she got a question wrong, while he correctly named Israel’s main airport.

On the tense show, a shocked Dan was asked how he planned to enjoy the £80,000, with the winner responding he would be ‘spending a little bit longer than planned’ on a trip to New Zealand.

But now he has had time to reflect on his epic win on Wednesday’s night episode, does Dan have any other burning desires?

The record-breaker spoke exclusively to Metro.co.uk about his future plans, revealing he ‘still has most of the money.’

He added: ‘I used some of it to finish paying for my car on a finance deal, but I’ve put most of it into Premium Bonds.

‘The trip to New Zealand is currently on hold: my partner’s relatives know we’re going to come over to visit them, but only after we’ve bought a house in Birmingham together as after all, we now have a sizeable deposit.’

Speaking about the moment it dawned on him he would be bagging the jackpot, Dan said: ‘I’m absolutely over the moon: it still feels unreal – I’m not sure it’s fully sunk in even now, months after the recording! It feels especially marvellous for me, a fan of history, to have won a “place in The Chase history books”, as it were!

‘It took me a few seconds to compute that I’d actually won: I think it might have helped that I wasn’t exactly where the clock was in the studio!

‘Even if I hadn’t won anything, though, I would still have had a great day. After all, it’s not every day any of us can get to go on television! I just totally enjoyed being part of the whole experience of putting a TV show together.’

Dan also said that ‘Bradley is an even nicer and funnier guy in the flesh than he appears on the box’, adding: ‘He and Jenny were so classy and amazing to meet and bounce off. It was all such great fun, and I’d love to do it all again.’
