The Rings of Power, the highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings spin-off, is officially here, and with fans about to return to Middle-earth.

The fantasy world, created by JRR Tolkien and explored in the three Lord of the Rings films, will also be where the Rings of Power is set.

However, we’ll see Middle-earth in its second age, thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Fans have got a sneak peek of which locations in the LOTR lore we’ll see more of in the Rings of Power, thanks to a new map released by Amazon – some of which have already featured in the main films.

In the words of Tolkien, ‘The greatest adventure is what lies ahead’…

Mordor

It’s one of the most famous locations in Lord of the Rings and it seems we might see, erm, more of Mordor in the new series.

Mordor is a black, volcanic plain in the southeast of Middle-earth, and chosen by Sauron as his realm.

Sauron ruled Mordor for two and a half thousand years, including during the second age, which is when we’ll return to Middle-earth.

Lindon

Lindon, in the west of Middle-earth, became an important Elvish realm, particularly in the second age.

While it has diminished importance by the third age, Lindon in the second age is supposed to be a beautiful seat of power.

Eriador

Eriador lies in northwestern Middle-earth, and is the location of The Shire.

During the second age, Eriador began to be deforested, with many coming back to settle.

Sauron was also driven out of Eriador and back to his land of Mordor.

Rhovanion

Rhovanian, also known as Wilderland, lies in northern Middle-earth

During the second age, Rhovanian was home to the two Silvan Elf kingdoms Northern Greenwood and Lórinand.

Rhun

Rhun was home to the Easterlings (Picture: NEW LINE CINEMA)

Rhun, or the Eastlands, lies in the far east of Middle-earth.

During the second age, it was home to the Easterlings.

Numenor

We’re so ready (Picture: Prime Video)

Numenor lies in the Great Sea.

It was brought out of the sea  by the Valar in the early Second Age, after the final ruin of Beleriand.
