Married At First Sight couple Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli have announced they’re expecting their first child.

Martha, 34, and Michael, 31, met on the wild reality TV series in 2019, and have now become the second couple from their season to fall pregnant after Cam and Jules Merchant welcomed their first child in 2020.

The couple announced the news on Instagram, also confirming Martha has been bedridden for months after suffering from an extreme case of Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which causes nausea, vomiting and affects up to one in 30 women.

In turn, Martha waited until she reached a safer part in her pregnancy to share the happy news.

‘We wanted to explain our situation and make a little bit of an announcement. Martha is pregnant,’ Michael explained in the clip posted on social media.

Martha, however, added: ‘It hasn’t been this exciting, wonderful time for us. I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining.

‘We are so excited, we are so happy, it was a compete surprise. But at five weeks I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

‘Which is severe chronic nausea and vomiting with no relief. It is 24-7. I literally didn’t get out of bed for two months.

‘I was so sick. I could not eat or drink anything. There were days I didn’t even get up to pee. I lost 10 kilos in five weeks.

‘We have been in and out of the emergency room and hospital’.

Thankfully, Martha said she’s been given ‘life-changing’ medication and is finally starting to ‘feel human again’.

Martha and Michael were recently enjoying a holiday travelling around Europe but their trip was cut short when she fell ill.

At the time, Michael said Martha had been suffering from a viral infection while she told followers: ‘Hi, everyone. I know I’ve been quiet on here. I’ve been bedridden for a few weeks, but I’m finally home and getting the care I need.

‘I’ll be back soon. Thanks for all the messages. Sorry I haven’t got back to anyone. I really do appreciate the support though.’
