Fred Sirieix has said he ‘knew’ his diving champion daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix would triumph at the Commonwealth Games this summer.
The First Dates star was beaming as he proudly spoke of his daughter’s major success in sport, after the 17-year-old scooped three medals at the Birmingham-based international event, including two golds.
She won her first individual title with the 10m platform, before triumphing again with partner Noah Williams in the 10m mixed synchro and earning a silver with Eden Cheng.
Since then she has bagged a nomination for National Lottery Good Causes athlete of the year.
Appearing on Lorraine on Monday morning to discuss the return of First Dates Hotel, the presenter complimented Andrea and praised her ‘graft’ as she commented that the teenager was ‘going form strength to strength’.
‘I’m so proud,’ admitted Fred, before revealing that he had been confident in her success after she recovered from a rough start to the year.

‘Just before she competed for the Commonwealth Games, I had a conversation with her and I said, “How do you feel?” and she said “I’m ready”. And when she said that I knew she was going to win.’
He added, laughing: ‘I mean it didn’t stop the nerves before she did the last dive, but I knew she was going to win because she had a very difficult beginning of the year and she had to build herself back up.
‘Diving is very much a mental thing. You need to be so positive, you have to have that mindset – a champion’s mindset – and she was ready for it.
