Boris Johnson has officially left Downing Street for the last time – but he didn’t receive much sympathy from stars speaking out after his speech.

The former Prime Minister, who has been succeeded by Liz Truss, gave a speech outside Number 10 before setting on his way to see the Queen to formally tender his resignation.

Reacting to the speech, however, some didn’t hold back.

Steps star Ian ‘H’ Watkins said: ‘Good riddance! On your way BJ! #BorisBrokeBritain,’ before adding: ‘I will never forget that Boris broke the rules and partied… when my Grandad died alone in hospital #BorisJohnson.’

Carol Vorderman added: ‘Even lies in the final speech from the Prime Minister who’s brought this country to its knees.

‘Boris Johnson has had many relationships through his life…. but sadly for us, he’s never had a relationship with the truth.’

Unless Boris Johnson comes out and issues a profuse apology for leaving Britain in such a shameful shambles, why do we give a monkey’s cuss what he has to say this morning? #No10

— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) September 6, 2022

Just watched Boris farewell speech, one gets the feeling that forcing him out of No 10 may not have been the best idea. Yes he is a serial liar, they all are. He caused his demise by being a clown and breaking covid rules. I guess people are not too sure Liz is the answer.

Boris Johnson has changed my mind about him with this beautiful elegant speech.

Shortly before Mr Johnson’s speech, Piers Morgan weighed in: ‘Unless Boris Johnson comes out and issues a profuse apology for leaving Britain in such a shameful shambles, why do we give a monkey’s cuss what he has to say this morning?’

Lord Alan Sugar said: ‘Just watched Boris farewell speech, one gets the feeling that forcing him out of No 10 may not have been the best idea. Yes he is a serial liar, they all are. He caused his demise by being a clown and breaking covid rules. I guess people are not too sure Liz is the answer..’

Comedian Sooz Kempner quipped: ‘Boris Johnson has changed my mind about him with this beautiful elegant speech.’

Meanwhile, author Michael Rosen wrote a poem for the occasion, tweeting: ‘A PM always up for a quarrel was a specialist in things immoral. He found it uncouth to stick to the truth and ended his reign in Balmoral.’

After three years and 44 days, Mr Johnson stepped out into Downing Street to mark the end of a chaotic and scandal-hit premiership – quite literally under a cloud.

The prime minister announced his intentions to step down in July after a wave of government resignations but remained in place while the Conservative Party chose a new leader over the summer.

Confirmation of Ms Truss’ victory yesterday means he will now step aside, with his successor’s place in Number 10 set to be confirmed by the monarch later today.
