Elon Musk has criticised Amazon Prime’s new multi-million pound series Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power saying that author JRR Tolkien would be ‘turning in his grave’.

The Rings of Power finally launched on the streaming platform last week after being praised by critics, who even went as far as saying it was worth the $1billion (£875m) price tag.

Not for Elon though.

The billionaire businessman took to Twitter to complain about the representation of male characters in the fantasy series, saying they were made to look ‘weak’.

‘Almost every male character so far is a coward, a jerk or both,’ he said, adding that only Morfydd Clark’s character, Galadriel, was ‘brave, smart, and nice’.

The show, which premiered last week, has seen reviews suspended by Amazon after becoming subject to review bombing.

Following in the footsteps of new Marvel show She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, the series was subjected to a bombardment of negative reviews on sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB that accept fan reviews.

Ismael Cruz Córdova – who plays Elven warrior Arondir – hit out at fans review bombing the show in a post on Twitter.

‘It’s not about the billboard – it’s about becoming unmissable, undeniable, irrevocably present and rooted – as a people, as beings, as individuals,’ he wrote, also posting a picture of his character displayed on a billboard.

‘A huge “we are here”. And we have been here. [I’m] looking for zero favours, but to live with the same chances to dream and thrive as anyone else. ‘

He went on to reach out to viewers who have ever felt ‘discarded, marginalised, or silenced’, and revealed the billboard of his character was located close to a hostel he used to frequent with ‘many other people who were struggling [with] housing and money’.

‘My heart was burning with an unshakable goal: To get to where we were told we couldn’t be. Here we are. To share it with the two halves of my DNA was absolutely surreal. My heart is full, of love, of them, and all of you who share this same fire,’ he concluded.

The prequel, which is set thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, in the Second Age, is based on the appendices of JRR Tolkien’s The Lords of the Rings novels, as well as The Silmarillion, Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle-Earth.

It has reportedly cost Amazon $1billion (£868 million) for five seasons, making it the most expensive TV series ever made.

The Rings of Power is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
