Kaye Adams has admitted that she ‘struggled to sleep’ after her first day of rehearsals for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV presenter, 59, said she counted as many sheep as she could but couldn’t switch off after a nervous first day in her dancing shoes.

The Loose Women host is among the stellar line-up of celebrities who will be taking part in Strictly’s 20th year on the BBC.

In a tweet to her 86,000 followers, she said: ‘Struggled to sleep last night after the first day of Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals. Tried to count sheep but couldn’t get past 5, 6, 7, 8.’

The choice of numbers at the end Kaye’s tweet could be indicating that she plans to dance to a popular song by pop group Steps.

Whether Kaye’s tweet was intended as a subtle joke about the song she’ll be dancing to, many of her fans still gave her encouraging words of support.

‘You will smash it, just remember that shot of caramel vodka and you’ll be fine,’ one fan said, while another exclaimed: ‘That’s a lush song! If that’s a clue, I’m very happy!’

Kaye is part of 15 celebrities who will be taking to the dancefloor when the show begins again on September 17.

Former Premier League footballer Tony Adams, former Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds, and actress and singer Kym Marsh will be competing alongside Kaye.

In addition, rapper and singer (and I’m a Celebrity semi-finalist) Fleur East, TV presenter Helen Skelton, and actor Will Mellor have joined the line-up.

The judges panel will once again be without Bruno Tonioli, who has now permanently left the show following his absence during the last two editions.

Tonioli, 66, was abent in the 2020 and 2021 editions of Strictly due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, and will be focusing on the American version of the show, Dancing with the Stars.

The judges panel will see all four judges from 2021 returning: Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke.

The 2021 series was won by actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, the show’s first ever deaf contestant, who consistently wowed the judges alongside dancing partner Giovanni Pernice.

Strictly Come Dancing launches on BBC One on September 17.
