BBC Proms cancelled in wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death-Kim Novak-Entertainment – Metro

The Royal Albert Hall have confirmed the BBC Proms will no longer go ahead on Thursday in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

The venue tweeted: ‘As a mark of respect this evening’s BBC Proms concert will be cancelled.’

Thursday’s event, Prom 70: The Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, had been due to begin at 7.30pm, with the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth being made an hour earlier.

Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement at 6.30pm: ‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon

‘The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died after 70 years on the throne, with her death announced by Buckingham Palace on 8 September 2022.

She died at the age of 96 surrounded by her family at her home in Balmoral, including her son and heir to the throne Charles, the Prince of Wales, and her grandsons, the Duke Of Cambridge, Prince William and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.
