Comedian and writer David A Arnold has died at the age of 54.

The star, who headlined two Netflix comedy specials and was a writer and producer on Fuller House, died on Wednesday due to natural causes.

According to Deadline and the LA Times, his family issued a statement saying: ‘It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our husband, father, brother and friend, David A. Arnold.

‘David passed away peacefully today in his home and doctors have ruled the cause of death due to natural causes.

‘Please keep our family in prayer and respect our privacy at this time, as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss.’

At the time of his death, Arnold was three dates into his comedy tour.

Arnold started his comedy career at the Montreal Comedy Festival, and appeared on Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza.

He released his first stand-up special,  David A. Arnold: Fat Ballerina, in 2019. His second, It Ain’t For The Weak, was released in July this year.

The comedian was also an accomplished writer, creating the show That Girl Lay Lay and serving as showrunner and executive producer.

Arnold also worked on Fuller House, the Full House reboot, as a writer and producer, as well as shows including Meet The BrownsTyler Perry’s House of Payne.

He is survived by his wife Julie L Harkness, and two children, Anna-Grace and Ashlyn.

Tributes have poured in, with comedian and actress Yvette Nicole Brown saying: ‘One of Cleveland’s finest has left the stage and way too soon. 54 is too young. #RIP @DavidAArnold. This does not feel real.’

Comedian Loni Love added: ‘My brother is gone… thank you for the laughs, the encouragement and the inspiration.. my love and prayers to his lovely wife Julie and his beautiful daughters… we are all heartbroken.’

Fuller House writer Bryan Behar added: ‘Devastated to hear of the passing of David A. Arnold. He was a beloved member of our Fuller House writing team, one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever seen & an all-around wonderful man. David was finally experiencing the fruits of decades of work. May his memory be a blessing.’
