Piers Morgan is among the stars heaping praise on King Charles III following his first speech since the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Britain’s longest-serving monarch died at the age of 96 while surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle on September 8, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

Her son immediately ascended to the throne, bringing Her Majesty’s 70-year reign to a close.

Tributes from around the world have poured in for the Queen, while thousands of mourners have gathered on the streets to pay their respects and lay flowers outside the palace.

King Charles delivered his first address as monarch from the same room where his mother would sometimes film her Christmas broadcasts.

In his speech, he honoured his ‘darling’ mother, saying: ‘We owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.’

The King also pledged his whole life as service as the new sovereign just as the Queen did, saying: ‘That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.’

Celebrities and media personalities have hailed his first address a ‘great’ speech, with controversial broadcaster Morgan tweeting a photo of his live TV screen as he tune in from home.

‘That was a great speech by a good man. The Queen is dead…. Long live The King!’, he penned.

Later on his TalkTV show, the former Good Morning Britain host added that the speech ‘made me feel, as a British subject, confident about the way we’re going to be going under this King.’

The Life Stories presenter noted what a ‘big moment for this country’ the current events are, saying that King Charles’ speech ‘hit all the right notes’ and was ‘perfectly pitched’.

‘Someone who has been, let’s remember, the longest-reigning apprentice to be a monarch that there’s ever been, decade after decade, wondering if he would ever actually get the top job, and now after the appalling circumstance of his mother’s death, imagine how difficult it is to address the country and the world, literally hours after you’ve lost your mother,’ he continued.

‘That in itself is a remarkable thing to be doing. And I thought King Charles III absolutely nailed the speech.’

Also sharing his thoughts but keeping his message of support concise, former Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark shared an official portrait of the King after the speech aired, writing: ‘God Save The King’.

Other stars showing their support for the new King included TV presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell, the wife of comedian, David Mitchell.

She praised: ‘That was a wonderful speech from the king. I think we’re very lucky. These are accidents of birth and he didn’t need to be intelligent, articulate, wise or kind, but he is.’

Supernanny star Jo Frost tweeted: ‘A pitch perfect empathetic Kings speech. #GodSaveTheKing’.

Other announcements in the King’s first address included that he has created his son William the Prince of Wales, with Kate the Princess of Wales.

He also expressed his ‘love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas’, a symbol of his bid for reconciliation amid past troubles with the Sussexes.

King Charles also paid tribute to his ‘darling wife’ Camilla – calling her ‘my Queen Consort’, saying he can ‘count on her loving help’ and praising her by saying: ‘I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much.’
