Today, King Charles III was officially proclaimed the new monarch at his Accession Council ceremony, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
As people across the nation and the world tuned in to watch the solemn occasion, Dawn French couldn’t help but spot her doppelgänger playing a key role in the proceedings.
The event – which was televised for the first time in history – took place at St James’s Palace, with former prime ministers Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron and Gordon Brown among those in attendance.
The ceremony involved two parts that took place indoors, with beefeaters and trumpet players situated outside as part of the tradition.
One woman involved in the event was seen on TV with a black headpiece and a red, gold and blue embellished garment… but her outfit wasn’t what set tongues wagging.
Several people couldn’t help but notice the resemblance between the woman in question and a certain Vicar of Dibley star – including the actress herself.
Sharing a picture of the woman on Twitter and Instagram, French wrote: ‘I’ve been quite busy this morning…’
Several of her followers agreed that the likeness between them was uncanny.
‘I have absolutely lost it,’ one person tweeted alongside a cry-laughing emoji, while another wrote: ‘Dawn you are very versatile.’

‘The Vicar of Dibley has been promoted!!!!’ one person quipped, as someone else remarked: ‘Love @Dawn_French for putting a smile on my face.’
However, one of the best responses came from Reverend Richard Coles, who joked that he remembered the last Accession Council ceremony as he shared a black-and-white photo of his own doppelgänger from back in the day.
