Broadcasters in the UK have updated their schedules in the wake of the Queen’s death at the age of 96.

As the nation entered a period of mourning when Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen had died peacefully surrounded by family at Balmoral, ending a 70-year reign,

Following the sad news, channels such as the BBC and ITV announced changes to their programming, when it was announced she was in poor health, to provide blanket coverage of the Queen.

Over the weekend, many broadcasters are continuing to alter their schedules and have added special documentaries about the Queen.

Here is everything you need to know about where and how to watch documentaries about Queen Elizabeth II.

Is the BBC airing specials about the Queen?

BBC One has altered its entire schedule for Saturday and will provide round-the-clock coverage of the Queen, including several documentaries.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died after 70 years on the throne, her death announced by Buckingham Palace on September 8, 2022.

She died at the age of 96 at her home in Balmoral, with her son, the now King Charles, and daughter Princess Anne by her side.

The first special, Picturing Elizabeth: Her Life in Images, will run at 2pm and sees Sophie Raworth explore the stories behind some of the most famous and era-defining pictures of the Queen.

It is followed by The Queen and Us: 50s and The Queen and Us: 60s at 3pm and 4pm respectively.

In the evening, the Beeb will run Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen, about rare, private moments from her life, including her engagement at Balmoral, at 7.45pm.

When the Queen Spoke to the Nation is scheduled for 9pm and will reflect on the Queen’s addresses to the nation.

Is ITV airing specials about the Queen?

The commercial broadcaster has announced its schedule for Saturday, with Sunday’s programming yet to be determined.

Among the shows planned today are three specially made documentaries about Queen Elizabeth II.

Our Queen, The People’s Stories, narrated by Nicola Walker, sees people from all walks of life reflect on meeting the Queen and share how those special moments affected their lives and will air at 2.15pm.

Next, the broadcaster will air The Queen in Her Own Words at 3.10pm, which will delve into the monarch’s speeches, letters, broadcasts and personal memoirs.

The final special planned for Saturday will run at 4.05pm and is titled Queen and Country.

Narrated by Alison Steadman, the film explores the Queen’s love of country life whether it be in Scotland, Norfolk or Windsor through the eyes of those who came into contact with her.
