BBC’s Clive Myrie insists Ukraine isn’t being ignored despite Queen coverage-Cydney Yeates-Entertainment – Metro

BBC newsreader Clive Myrie has ensured viewers that the latest updates on Ukraine are being reported amid rolling coverage of the Queen’s death.

Viewers have grown concerned that attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine has been somewhat overlooked following Thursday’s news that the Queen had died at Balmoral aged 96.

BBC One altered its television schedule and suspended its regular programming after it was first announced there was a concern for the late monarch’s health.

Since her death was confirmed, the channel has continued to revise its schedule, with a news special airing on Sunday covering the Queen’s final journey from Balmoral to London.

Viewers have voiced their worries that not enough attention has been given to the likes of Ukraine and called for action.

‘I’m a royalist sad about The Queen’s passing. But it’s been over 48 hours now. There’s nothing more to report and I’d really like to know what’s going on in #Ukraine from a reliable news broadcaster. So stop giving us padding and vox pops and REPORT!!!’, one wrote.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another urged: ‘Can all the news channels stop their blanket coverage of the Queen for 5 minutes pls? Because it looks like the turning point in the war in Ukraine may be happening.  It’s critical world news and we need to be told it. Today.’

However, BBC newsreader Myrie has maintained that Ukraine is still being reported on.

‘Orla Guerin’s latest reporting from Ukraine featured on the main BBC news last night,’ he penned on Twitter.

‘It might seem no other story is being covered, but I assure you that’s not the case. Journalists are also not being allowed near the frontlines. That is also hampering reporting. Thanks.’

Saturday night’s BBC Weekend News detailed Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia, revealing that the mission is gathering momentum.

‘For now, journalists have been banned from the frontlines,’ Guerin said. ‘Kyiv determined to win the information war.

‘In some areas, Russia’s frontline has collapsed and liberation has come.’
