Frozen Planet II’s Sir David Attenborough proves size does matter as male seals try to attract females using expandable sack-Alicia Adejobi-Entertainment – Metro

Sir David Attenborough has solved the nation’s dating lives by revealing the one thing men have apparently been missing this whole time – an inflatable nostril sack. 

Frozen Planet II returned to screens on Sunday night giving the country a much-needed dose of happiness and relaxation following Queen Elizabeth II’s death last week. 

As viewers snuggled into their sofas, Sir David gave them an extremely close look at the mating ritual between seals and, we have to say, it’s pretty unique. 

Male hooded seals develop inflatable noses at six years old and, despite what seems to be a very young age, it’s at this point that they’re ready to breed. 

And, the bigger their nose, the more attractive they’ll be to females. 

Sir Attenborough introduced viewers to a female seal that had just given birth and spent four days feeding milk to her pup.

Unlike humans, who are typically advised to refrain from sex for six weeks after giving birth, the female seal only has to wait four days until she’s ready for action and, apparently, even that is ‘too long’ for her mating partner. 

Slide in the ‘impatient’ male hooded seal, who uses his, ahem, nostril to try and woo her into the sack – pun intended. 

In hilarious scenes, the male seal is seen inflating the sack in his left nostril until it blows up to the size of a pretty large red balloon as his mating call. However, his unimpressed love interest gives him a sharp nip on the tail which is the seal equivalent of swiping left on a dating app. 

As Sir David so brilliantly remarked: ‘No wonder he’s deflated.’ 

Viewers couldn’t get enough of the scenes, with one quipping: ‘Hey who wants to see my expandable sack?!’ 

‘Blimey that’s an impressive nose,’ one laughed. 

‘I wouldn’t be impressed with a nose ball bag either love,’ another admitted.

One viewer weighed in: ‘Those hooded seals have the strangest idea of sexy I’ve ever seen.’ 

Another joked: ‘Size matters.’ 

The female seal may not have been impressed with the size of her admirer’s ball bag, but it still does have its uses, as the hooded male can use it to intimidate their love rivals. 

Size does matter!
