High School Musical: The Musical: The Series goes painfully meta for series 4, and fans are freaking out-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is returning for a fourth chapter and judging by the synopsis, we’re not ready for the ‘multiverse of madness’ that awaits.
The TV spin-off is inspired from the movie franchise, which originally starred Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as high schoolers Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez.
The drama takes place in the real-life East High where the original movie was filmed, meaning there’s an abundance of meta references and mockumentary interviews to camera.
Starring Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, and Matt Cornett, the series sees students compete to bag roles in their school production of High School Musical, all while navigating their own relationships.
And in a twist – that has sent several fans into a frenzy for a variety of reasons – the streaming platform has teased what’s to come.
In season four, after an epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake, the students discover that their beloved East High is being used to film High School Musical 4 and they’ll all be playing featured extras.

While hardcore Wildcats everywhere were living for the announcement, others were left wondering what this means.
‘My brain collapsed trying to comprehend this,’ one person wrote.
‘But does this mean we’re actually getting HSM4, or nah?’ another asked.
Echoing the confusion, a third person wrote: ‘High School Musical The Musical The Series bringing the true Multiverse of Madness!!’
Following the announcement, several fans remembered OG HSM duo Zac and Vanessa paying a surprise visit to East High, and captured the moment on Instagram.
The 17 Again actor paid homage to 1980s classic The Breakfast Club while standing outside Salt Lake High School East in Utah, where the majority of the Disney Channel movie was filmed.
While Vanessa shared a similar snap outside the iconic building a month prior.
No official release date has been given over the fourth series as of yet, but we’ll certainly be
