Stacey Giggs has opened up about going through a ‘pretty rough’ five weeks, as she shared a family picture of her ex-husband Ryan Giggs and their two children.

It comes after Giggs, 48, had denied controlling or coercive behaviour over a three-year period towards his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, 38.

A judge ruled during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court earlier this month that Giggs should face court again, with a new trial date set for July 31, 2023.

Taking to Instagram, Stacey shared an old photo of Ryan and their children and said they had all ‘rode the storm’ and were focusing on protecting their children, Liberty, 19, and Zachary, 15.

‘The last five weeks have been pretty rough but we’ve rode the storm for now,’ she wrote.

‘Thank you to both of our amazing families and friends for supporting and helping us protect the two most important people in our lives.’

The former footballer, 48 and Stacey were married for 10 years between 2007 and 2017 and co-parent their two children.

Stacey’s post comes after a jury failed to reach verdicts after a four-week trial at the same court.

Giggs denied ‘losing control’ and headbutting Greville and assaulting Greville’s sister, Emma, by elbowing her in the jaw, during a row at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester on November 1 2020.

Judge Hilary Manley fixed a new trial date earlier this month, on the next date available to both prosecution and defence lawyers, with the trial estimated to last three or four weeks.

Giggs said in a statement after the ruling: ‘After more than three weeks in court I am obviously disappointed that a retrial has been ordered.

‘My not guilty plea remains in relation to all charges. I am confident that justice will eventually be done and my name will be cleared of all the allegations.

‘I would like to thank my legal team, my mum, my children, my girlfriend Zara, as well as my closest friends, for their support throughout this period.

‘I understand the level of interest and the scrutiny around this case, but I would like to ask that my and my family’s privacy is respected in the weeks and months ahead.’

Giggs will remain on bail until the trial next year.

A further pre-trial hearing was set for July 3 2023.
