Amanda Seyfried’s daughter burst into tears when the actress won the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a limited series – but not because she was happy for her mum.
The Mamma Mia star, 36, won the Emmy for her series The Dropout, which is based on a podcast of the same name. Amanda plays convicted entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.
Amanda’s five-year-old daughter Nina was told that she would be able to stay up late to watch the ceremony and see if The Dropout won any awards.
During her acceptance speech, Amanda then directly addressed her daughter from the stage, saying that it was time for her to ‘go to bed’.
Apparently poor Nina was left feeling confused as to how (and why) her mum had told her to go to bed by speaking to her through the TV.
Backstage, Amanda told reporters: ‘My daughter actually cried because she was confused how I spoke to her through the TV and so I called her.’

She continued: ‘She was supposed to be in bed. She’s going to school tomorrow! I didn’t expect that to be the reaction.’
Earlier in the evening while walking on the red carpet, she had already given a shout out to Nina, who was born in 2017.
‘[My daughter] should be in bed. But it’s okay, it’s fine. She can stay up as long as she likes,’ before turning to the camera and saying: ‘You can stay up.’

The Dropout sees Amanda take on the role of convicted self-made billionaire Elizabeth Holmes, who was found guilty of defrauding investors in January 2022.
Holmes was CEO of biotech company Theranos and claimed to have revolutionised blood testing with state of the art equipment – in 2015, these claims were suspected to be false.
