A clip of a scene left out of an episode of The Inbetweeners has resurfaced on social media and fans are baffled that it never appeared in the show.

The Channel 4 sitcom, which aired from 2008 to 2010 before spawning two movie sequels, was a hit with viewers and still has a huge cult following to this day.

The series won numerous awards and spawned the careers of its four main cast members, including Simon Bird of fellow Channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner.

Now, one scene from the first episode of the show’s third and final season has left fans stunned that it was ever left out.

‘I wish they didn’t delete so many scenes,’ one fan of the show said on TikTok. ‘This should have stayed in the final cut,’ another said.

The scene in question covers a range of typically hilarious antics from the four boys and Mr Gilbert (Greg Davies) as they catch up after the summer.

It begins with Neil explaining to Simon that he might have cheated on his fictional girlfriend, Claire Bennett from superhero drama Heroes, during the holidays.

As the scene progresses, Jay enters and boasts about his pretend summer trip to Thailand – which is revealed to be a visit to Great Yarmouth instead.

Will then joins the group, who immediately set about making fun of him after an unfortunate bathroom-related mishap from the season two finale.

Even Mr Gilbert can’t resist the temptation to tease Will about his accident, but some fans do believe that Mr. Gilbert’s behaviour hints towards why the scene was deleted.

When Mr Gilbert approaches the boys, he says he’s ‘surprised to see’ that Will has returned to school following his embarrassment.

Not content with reminding Will of the incident, he then says: ‘If what happened to you had happened to me, I’d have taken my own life.’

Fans of the show have suggested that Mr Gilbert’s comments to Will probably contributed to its exclusion from the final version of the episode.

Some fans in the comment section of the video have pointed out that the scene wasn’t necessarily ‘cut’ from the episode because it was simply a promotional video posted online before season three released.

As for whether The Inbetweeners are ever going to come back, Simon Bird told The Guardian: ‘It’s a hard no, I’m afraid. It just wouldn’t be the show people want or remember.’
