John Oliver’s brutal comments over Queen Elizabeth II ‘cut from UK TV’-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Broadcaster Sky reportedly removed John Oliver’s jibes relating to Queen Elizabeth II from his latest episode of Last Week Tonight.

Buckingham Palace confirmed last Thursday that the late monarch died peacefully at Balmoral aged 96. Her funeral will take place on Monday, September 19, which will be a national bank holiday.

Oliver addressed Her Majesty’s death in Sunday’s show, which premiered in the US, as he recapped the week’s news, and poked fun at Prime Minister Liz Truss’ comments over the ongoing energy crisis.

Frustrated UK viewers questioned why parts of Oliver’s segment were allegedly cut, with one tweeting: ‘Where can I watch the segment on the Queen from @LastWeekTonight considering Sky decided to cut it?’

During the episode, Oliver remarked: ‘The nicest thing the Queen of England ever did for anyone was die the week that woman became Prime Minister,’ he remarked.

‘Because for at least a week, she’s not going to get justifiably destroyed for answers like that.’

Pointing to King Charles, he added: ‘Look, things are pretty f*****g bleak in the U.K. right now. This f*****g guy is about to be on all the money.’

The host also highlighted several bizarre social media tributes from The Crazy Frog and Dominos Pizza, saying: ‘Obviously, we have to start with the UK, which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes.

‘It is a big moment this week and for some reason absolutely everyone felt they had to wade in on [it].’

Oliver was born in Birmingham to Liverpudlian parents, and attended Christ’s College, Cambridge, before moving to New York in 2006 to join The Daily Show; he was made a US citizen in 2019.

He has been publicly critical of the Royal family in his comedy and in interviews, and months before Meghan Markle got married to Prince Harry, he called the family ‘fundamentally flawed’.
