Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham revealed the death of Queen Elizabeth II affected her ‘far worse’ than she thought.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch died on September 8, aged 96, while surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

It has since been announced that the Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday, September 19, with the day being made a UK bank holiday.

Celebrities and public figures have been sharing heartwarming tributes for Her Majesty.

Actress Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton in the Jason Sudeikis led series, expressed that she was ‘upset at how deeply upset I was’ at the news.

Speaking to Variety on the 74th Emmy Awards red carpet, the 48-year-old said: ‘It makes me emotional to think about it.’

‘I sat with my dad on the sofa and I watched it all night until I couldn’t keep my eyes open because I couldn’t believe it.’

She continued: ‘It is like a grandmother dying.

‘It hit me far worse than I thought it would and the enormous pressure that our king has on his shoulders now.’

For the second year running, Apple TV Plus’ Ted Lasso nabbed the gong for outstanding comedy series.

Sudeikis, who stars as the titular lead, thanked devoted viewers for tuning into the show before promising fans more ahead of season three.

‘We’ll see you for Season 3 at some point,’ he said.

Elsewhere during the star-studded ceremony, Succession was announced as best drama, with Jesse Armstrong also nabbing the award for best writing for a drama series – while Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae came out on top in the lead actor category.

Ozark’s Julia Garner won the best supporting actress in a drama series gong, meaning Rhea Seehorn was not recognized for her role as Kim Wexler.

However, despite being nominated a whopping 46 times since the pilot dropped in 2015, Better Call Saul viewers were livid after the drama was snubbed again.
