Apron? Ready. Rolling pin? Ready. Sweet treats on hand for a night in? Ready – we’re all set for the return of the Great British Bake Off.

12 fresh bakers will hit the GBBO tent to test their baking skills, hoping to conquer each week’s different themes which for the first time will include Mexican and Halloween weeks.

This year’s contestants include a nuclear scientist and a music teacher, and a Gemma Collins enthusiast. Then again, who isn’t a GC nerd?

Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will also return as judges, with Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas bringing all the fun as hosts.

This year’s series will see a brand new winner crowned – bit who won last year’s Great British Bake Off?

Last year’s series saw Italian baker Giuseppe Dell’Anno crowned the winner.

He beat off competition from Crystelle Perreira and Will Chirag (aka Chigs) in a nail-biting finale.

A fan-favourite from early on, Giuseppe was named Star Baker several times across this series, making him a very deserving winner.

Following the final scenes, Giuseppe took to Instagram to express his gratitude after an exhausting yet exhilarating experience.

‘I could have never done it without the support of my wife, my fellow bakers and the constant support from the production team’ he wrote in the caption, while other former Bake Off stars commented underneath.

‘Superstar- so well deserved!’ wrote 2019 finalist Steph Blackwell, while series nine winner Rahul Mandal added: ‘Well done Sir!! You are an amazing baker and an incredible friend!’

What has Giuseppe Dell’Anno done since?

After snatching the 2021 trophy, Giuseppe has his fingers in many pies – figuratively and literally.

Earlier this year he announced he would be releasing his first cookbook, Giuseppe’s Italian Bakes, featuring 60 of his favourite family baking recipes.

Taking to Instagram to announce the news, he told fans the book is set to be released this Autumn.

‘If I’m honest, I cannot believe that this is really happening, and I’m still in disbelief while I’m writing this… somebody pinch me, please!!!’ he posted.

‘I’ve collated for you over 60 of my favourite family home bakes, from timeless rum baba to my signature focaccia, and I have unleashed my most-accurate-self to give you detailed, step-by-step recipes, including all the tricks that I have learnt over time.

‘You can pre-order now via the link in my bio, with signed copies available online at @waterstones.’

The book will be available to buy on October 13.

Since his time on Bake Off, he has also returned to Channel 4 to bake in front of a live audience during Steph’s Packed Lunch and appeared on various talk shows such as Lorraine.

The Great British Bake Off 2022 begins tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
