Grand Designs viewers should brace themselves for a fresh disaster tonight as one man is forced to build his £1million underground lair himself after not being able to find any builders.

In Wednesday’s episode, presenter Kevin McCloud meets Dorran and his wife Vereuschka, who have chosen to contrast a super modern underground house on a hill outside Canterbury.

But catastrophe soon strikes when the project site freezes over and Dorran can’t find any workers.

Failure isn’t an option for the father-of-three though, so he decides to do it himself.

‘Once you get offshore, there’s no one there to help you and if anything happens we have to deal with it ourselves,’ shipmaster Dorran explains.

‘I’m quite happy to take on a certain element of risk and deal with it myself.’

While Dorran admits that the build is challenging, he realises he hasn’t got much in the way of choice.

‘It’s a duty to us to get the job done,’ he notes. ‘Otherwise, what’s the option? Walk away? That’s not what we came here to do. We came here to build a family home.’

But taking on the project himself causes disruption to the build, delaying it by years.

But it looks like everything ends well in the end… judging by this spoiler photo (Picture: Channel 4)

‘An original schedule of 10 months soon becomes measured in years, as Dorran battles with engineering, earth moving and electrics on a giant scale,’ the official episode synopsis teases.

‘This is an epic project that tests one man to his limits in order to fulfil a promise to his family.’

Will Dorran be able to get the job done? Spoiler pictures confirm that he does, but we’re sure it’s quite a journey to get there.

Grand Designs airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
