Jedward claimed to have received death threats in a bid to ‘intimidate’ them, after the twins shared controversial comments after the Queen’s death.
Queen Elizabeth II died at 96 years old on Thursday 8 September, just hours after Buckingham Palace released a statement about the Queen’s health deteriorating.
As the tributes began to pour out for the late Queen from across the world, Irish pop stars John and Edward Grimes called for the end of the monarchy.
The identical twins, who are best known for their time on The X Factor in 2009 as well as previously appearing in Celebrity Big Brother, wrote from their shared social media account: ‘Abolish the monarchy and give the people real democracy!’
In a separate tweet, posted on Saturday, they added: ‘King Charles should hand back the six Irish counties on his visit to Northern Ireland – No war! Just words! It’s time.’
Their divisive views on the future of the monarchy have been met with a mixed reaction online.
Over 50,000 people liked their tweet, but Jedward have now revealed they’ve also received death threats.
In a new tweet, the twins stated: ‘Psychos are sending us death threats! Your threatening behaviour and criminality will not intimidate us.’
Some of their 668,000 followers rallied to support them, with one writing: ‘Hope you’re both safe! Death threats are a criminal offence… you should forward them onto the police!’
