Kerry Katona is taking her health much more seriously following her mother’s heart attack earlier this year, and has booked herself in for a CT scan.

The former Atomic Kitten singer experienced a family scare in April when her mum Sue suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital.

It wasn’t Sue’s first heart attack as there is a history of the serious medical emergency in Katona’s family.

With this in mind, the TV personality decided to take her health into her own hands and book a CT scan at a private clinic to determine whether she is also at high risk of a heart attack.

Filming from the Pall Mall medical centre in Manchester, Katona explained in an Instagram video: ‘For those of you who don’t know, my mum had a heart attack a couple of months ago. My grandad had a heart attack and my nana had a heart attack.

‘I am worried that I have a high risk of getting a heart attack and I have health anxiety anyway. I am a nightmare for it.

‘So I have come to Pall Mall medical centre and I am going to go get myself a CT scan.’

Katona, 42, explained that she wasn’t previously aware that she was able to have the examination but booked an appointment as soon as she learned.

‘I know that there are people out there who suffer with this not knowing,’ she continued.

‘This is where they can help prevent whether I am at a high risk of getting a heart attack.’

The Whole Again singer went on to reveal how she’s changed her lifestyle to live a healthier life, including quitting smoking.

‘I am really trying my best to be fit and healthy,’ she told her followers.

‘You might think I’m crazy, but I’ve booked myself in and I am going to let you know how it all goes.’

Earlier this year, Katona described her mother’s medical emergency as a ‘huge scare’ but felt reassured that she was in the best place in hospital.

‘I’m in the middle of a tour at the moment so I can’t even go and see her right now but she’s alright, aren’t you mum?’ Kerry said in a video at the time.

‘Big scare, huge, huge scare and yeah – we’re all a little bit shook up by it. She’s in hospital, she’s in the right place – all of the kids are going to see her today with Ryan [Mahoney, Kerry’s fiance].

‘I’ve got two shows and then another two shows to do tomorrow. It’s been great fun, this panto, but I can’t wait to get home and go and see my mum.’

‘She’s okay, she’ll be okay,’ she added. ‘She had multiple heart attacks. So we’ve got to get her in the best health we can possibly get her in so I’m sure she’ll now get inundated with messages. My mum did want me to let everyone know, so that’s what I’m doing.’
