Martin Lewis pledged to donate £97,000 of his own money to charity live on Good Morning Britain in an incredible gesture.
The Money Saving expert, who has been giving viewers tips to help them though the cost of living crisis, was interviewing Saleem Shafi, deputy chief executive officer of financial advice charity Money Buddies, alongside co-host Susanna Reid.
When asked how much money is needed to help people, Saleem replied: ‘It’s interesting. I had a meeting yesterday and I think £975,000 would make a big difference to our charity in terms of how many people we can help.’
Martin replied: ‘I’ve given to you before. I’ll give 10 per cent of that,’ meaning his full donation will amount to around £97,500.
Saleem responded: ‘Thank you, Martin.’
Susanna then said: ‘Thank you for generosity. I think we’ll all pitch in.’
However, as Martin mentioned, it’s definitely not the first time he’s been generous with his money, previously donating £50,000 to the same charity after a ‘depressing’ phone-in on This Morning.
In March, the MoneySavingExpert.com founder took a number of calls from viewers concerned about the rising cost of gas and electricity bills.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: ‘Bloody depressing @thismorning phone-in again. So many people at crisis point regarding energy bills – including those with v high usage due to disabilities.

‘I am nearly OUT OF TOOLS to help. Govt must intervene.’
Leeds-based service Money Buddies, which offers free debt and money advice, replied to his Tweet saying: ‘We are in the same boat Martin.
‘We saw twice as many people than we expected to see in February, same again in March, and we have a huge waiting list of people desperate to see us who are vulnerable.
‘We are at breaking point… the state must intervene now…’
Martin quickly replied to them and offered a donation of £50,000 to ‘get things in place to relieve pressure at speed’.
He later jokingly added: ‘I’m normally against impulse spending – but I’ll let myself off this one ;).’
The charity commented that Martin’s donation would allow its trained advisors to increase their hours, in turn helping more people with financial advice.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
