Bernard Cribbins was laid to rest on Wednesday at a private ceremony following his death at the age of 93.

Acting legend Cribbins died in July, with many fans and friends paying tribute.

Cribbins’ funeral took place at Woking Crematorium, with writer James Hogg, who was a close friend of the actor’s and worked on his autobiography, sharing beautiful details about the service.

Posting a photo of the order of service, Hogg said: ‘What a suitably special send off.

‘Right Said Fred was playing as we entered the chapel and Hole in the Ground (what else?) was playing as we left. Beautiful tributes from David Tenant and Catherine Tate as well as Bernard’s dear friend Molly Hawkyard. Even the sun shone x [sic].’

Right Said Fred and Hole in the Ground were both singles recorded by Cribbins in 1962. Right Said Fred reached number 10 on the UK singles chart, while Hole in the Ground, his highest charting song, reached number nine.

Tennant and Tate were close friends of Cribbins’, after working with him on Doctor Who. Cribbins played beloved character Wilfred Mott, grandfather of Catherine’s Donna Noble.

Earlier this year, he was seen filming in a wheelchair alongside the two actors, and it was thought that he would reprise his role as Wilf in the 60th anniversary special of the sci-fi.

The actor, singer, and children’s entertainer, whose career spanned seven decades, was also known for iconic roles in The Railway Children, the Carry On films, and Fawlty Towers, as well as narrating The Wombles.

‘His career spanned seven decades with such diverse work ranging from films like The Railway Children and the Carry On series, hit 60’s song Right Said Fred, a notorious guest on Fawlty Towers and narrating The Wombles.

‘He worked well into his 90s, recently appearing in Doctor Who and the CBeebies series Old Jack’s Boat. He lost his wife of 66 years, Gill, last year.

‘Bernard’s contribution to British entertainment is without question. He was unique, typifying the best of his generation, and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.’
