Brian Dowling has hit back at trolls who send ‘ignorant’ and ‘vile messages’ to him and his husband Arthur following the birth of their daughter Blake.
The couple welcomed their new addition – with Brian’s sister Aoife acting as surrogate – on September 1 and have been adjusting to their new lives as parents ever since.
However, Big Brother winner Brian revealed that their new status as a family had attracted a wave of ‘shocking’ homophobic abuse, something he had ‘thankfully’ never had to deal with previously.
The 44-year-old shared a screengrab of a direct message reply he got to a Story of him soothing his new baby girl, whose full name is Blake Maria Rose Dowling Gourounlian, which read: ‘She wants her mother.’
‘Messages like this make me sad but also so very angry. @gourounlian and I get messages like this rather often,’ he wrote as a caption.
‘I’m not sure if the people sending them are IGNORANT or just plain VILE.’

Returning to the exchange in a spate of video clips posted to his Stories late on Wednesday night, Brian shared: ‘I want to say a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who sent Arthur and I messages from the post I put up.
‘I was having fun with Blake because she wouldn’t settle and I was wondering if she was overtired. Then someone messaged me saying that she’s crying because she misses her mother – offensive, rude, and I just thought, “No need for that”.’
He added: ‘That is just a taste of some of the messages Arthur and I have been have received [since] we announced our surrogacy journey. People have been very open and honest regarding their views. Not that I have to explain myself, but it’s obvious to our friends and family and anyone who follow us on Instagram that our daughter Blake will have two fathers.’

Praising Aoife, who he recently paid heartfelt tribute to, and the couple’s unknown donor, he reiterated: ‘Without those women NONE of this would have been possible. Our daughter won’t have a mother, our daughter will have two fathers. Our daughter had a donor.’
‘That person was obviously trying to rile and upset me, and it did. But f**k ‘em, it is what it is – love will always win,’ the reality star insisted.
Sharing how the trolling was a new experience for him, Brian explained: ‘I’ve never really gone through homophobic abuse thankfully until we announced we were pregnant – even me saying we were pregnant people find that so offensive for me to say.
‘The amount of homophobic abuse we received was absolutely shocking. It all stems from homophobia, and again, f**k ‘em!’

He then said it was ‘why is was so important to do the documentary’, which is Brian and Arthur‘s Very Modern Family and will follow the couple’s surrogacy journey and air on Irish network RTE.
‘The documentary is about educating people about our journey, not in a patronising way, and also using the correct language because there’s certain stuff along the way that we have found uncomfortable or offensive. It’s a very open and honest look at our lives,’ he finished.
