Tonight, during two nail-biting semi-finals, seven cooks dwindled down to five on Celebrity MasterChef.

Having been rescheduled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the BBC programme returned tonight with a double bill, which saw former Great British Bake Off judge Dame Mary Berry and food critic Grace Dent lend their expertise to the kitchen.

Former professional footballer Jimmy Bullard, Love Island star Faye Winter, presenter Lisa Snowdon, actor Cliff Parisi, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Kitty Scott-Claus, singer Mel Blatt and McFly musician Danny Jones went head to head for a chance to make it to finals week.

However, in the end, it was first Jimmy’s time to say goodbye, followed by Faye in the second semi-final.

In the first programme to air tonight, Jimmy did manage to impress with his apricot crumble tart, which he baked based on Dame Mary’s own recipe.

While he received praise for the crisp pastry and the dessert’s scrumptious centre, the eagle-eyed Dame Mary did notice that the edge of the tart had caught slightly in the oven.

For his second dish of the episode – which was inspired by the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – Jimmy served up venison loin with brie and goats cheese filled potato fondants and topped with a red wine and chocolate sauce.

While judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode noted how the meat was ‘cooked beautifully’ alongside a ‘delicious’ sauce, they pointed out – much to Jimmy’s annoyance – that the potatoes were not cooked through.

Despite putting on a strong performance, it was Jimmy’s time to go at the end of the episode, as he said he was ‘so sad’ to leave.

‘I’m upset, like anything, but everyone’s time comes to an end,’ he said, adding that he ‘loved every minute’.

In the second semi-final of the night, the chefs were tasked with concocting dishes inspired by home comforts, with Faye opting for her take on the widely-loved sticky toffee pudding.

Unfortunately, Faye’s dish lacked the ‘sticky’ element necessary (Picture: BBC)

Her pudding was flavoured with dates and chocolate sauce, served with orange segments that had been soaked in orange liqueur, caramel shards and orange ice cream.

However, she missed the mark when it came to conquering the dessert, as Grace revealed that the dish was not sticky, while commending the reality star on her ice cream.

When it was revealed that Faye had been eliminated from the competition, both Danny and Kitty looked shocked that they’d made it through to the final five.

Faye said that she ‘had the best time’, adding that it was ‘a bit gutting not to get over the line to the finals’.

Nonetheless, she added that she was ‘so happy’ that she got this far in the competition.

Celebrity MasterChef returns tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
