Shane Nolan has ignited a furious backlash after saying he doesn’t understand why Queen’s death is all over TV.

Her Majesty died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday, September 9. Following her death, the BBC and ITV revised their schedules to air special programming and news coverage and will continue to do so in the lead-up to the state funeral on Monday, September 19.

A number of television shows have been delayed in the process, including Strictly Come Dancing, which will now launch at the later date of Friday, September 23 with the first live show taking place on Saturday, September 24.

EastEnders was also affected, however, it returned to BBC One on Monday, with Shane’s dad, Shane Richie, reprising his role as Alfie Moon.

But on Tuesday, Shane, who is also the son of Loose Women star Coleen Nolan, shared his confusion as to why the news of the Queen’s death is still being aired.

‘I did love the queen, what a woman,’ he penned. ‘I just don’t understand following the coffin around with cameras everywhere and all over TV all day.

‘Now I know I know some people will be well into it and that’s fine but can anyone tell me what time @bbceastenders is on tonight. #alfiesback.’

Many lambasted Shane for his ‘disrespectful’ remarks, with one writing: ‘She gave 70 years of her life for this country and you can’t give her 1 week of TV time. Disgraceful.’

‘Disgusting remark,’ slammed another. ‘Who cares about bloody miserable EastEnders? I bet you don’t complain when football is on tv all day when the World Cup is on.’

A third penned: ‘Absolutely disrespectful after all the Queen did over the years for the country I’d rather watch her safe arrival on her final journeys rather than EastEnders.’

Responding to this reply, Shane fired back: ‘It’s not. It’s on all day every day. If that’s ur thing I completely respect it.

‘I do dive in and watch bits here and there but it’s not for me. Sorry if that doesn’t fit ur agenda. I will watch the funeral for sure.’ (sic)

Some did agree with Shane’s opinion though. ‘It’s like the circus has come to town,’ one said. ‘And how is that respect mobile phones everywhere they turn. Let them grieve in private. I think they have had to do this to try and save the monarchy.’

Despite Shane’s criticism, the BBC only received 670 complaints regarding its wall-to-wall coverage of the Queen’s death last Thursday.

In comparison, the corporation received 110,000 complaints about its output when Prince Philip died.
