Jimmy Kimmel personally apologised to Quinta Brunson after viewers slammed him for ‘upstaging’ her winning moment at the Emmy Awards.
On Monday evening, the annual ceremony honouring talent across the TV industry took place, with big winners including the stars of Ted Lasso and Succession.
Quinta, who created and features in Abbott Elementary, made history as the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy category, winning the prize for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
However, her winner’s speech was disrupted when talk show host Jimmy remained lying on the ground, after being dragged onto the stage by Will Arnett during a skit.
Irate fans blasted the move on social media and branded Jimmy’s actions as ‘disrespectful.’
Although actress Quinta insisted that she wasn’t ‘bothered’ by the gatecrash, playful revenge proved to be too tempting during Wednesday’s edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

While addressing the audience with his usual opening monologue, Quinta interrupted the comedian.
‘You know how when you win an Emmy, you only have 45 seconds to do an acceptance speech, which is like not that much time? And then someone does a dumb comedy bit that goes on a bit too long?’ she said.
After the commercial break, Jimmy addressed the backlash and explained what happened prior.
‘I do want to explain this for those who may be confused by this,’ he began.
‘That was a dumb comedy bit that we thought would be funny. I lost, and then I drank too much, and I had to be dragged out on the stage. And then people got upset. They said that I stole your moment, and maybe I did.’

He continued: ‘I’m very sorry if I did do that – I’m sorry I did do that, actually. The last thing I would ever want to do is upset you because I think so much of you, and I think you know that. I hope you know that.’
Accepting his apology, Quinta replied: ‘I was honestly in such a moment of having a good time, like I won my first Emmy! I was up there happy, and I was wrapped up in the moment.
‘I didn’t say any of that, but honestly I had such a good night.’
