Laura Whitmore in Ghost Stories

Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore made her West End debut last night in spooky production 2:22 A Ghost Story.

The Aftersun host, 37, joined Matt Willis, Tamsin Carroll, and Felix Scott in the cast of the show at the Criterion Theatre in London.

Fellow Love Island star and husband Iain Stirling attended the press night for the show to see Laura tread the boards in her new role.

Laura stars as Jenny in the show and, speaking at the time of her casting, said she was excited to make her West End debut.

‘Theatre has always been my first love and I can’t wait to get back on stage,’ she revealed.

‘I am a huge fan of the previous productions and delighted to be getting stuck in with rehearsals and working alongside such a hugely talented cast and team.’

The show’s run has been extended until January 8, 2023, following two record-breaking runs at the Noel Coward and Gielgud Theatre, as well as a hugely successful reception at its current venue.

Written by Danny Robbins, A Ghost Story has also received three Olivier Nominations, including best new play, and has also won the best new play category in the Whatsonstage awards.

Speaking about the show, Danny said that ‘like Doctor Who’ the show keeps regenerating with new ‘truly thrilling performers.’

‘How exciting is it to be looking forward to Laura Whitmore’s stage debut? And Matt Willis has more than proved himself to be a brilliant, explosive actor in recent years,’ he said.

‘Felix and Tamsin make up our foursome – both absolutely epic talents.

‘I have a feeling this is going to be a particularly spine-tingling incarnation of my play, so, if you haven’t seen it already, come! If you have, come again!’

Laura recently opened up on her reasons for leaving hit ITV reality show Love Island.

The TV star joined the ITV2 dating show in 2020 to replace late host Caroline Flack.

However, she revealed her decision to walk away from the presenting gig days after the most recent series came to an end.

Laura hinted she found it difficult to cope with the ‘parameters’ put in place in her role on the show,

Reflecting on her departure, she said: ‘Love Island is a show that I love to watch, and I always want to work on shows that I enjoy. But there’s nothing more that I can do with it. There are parameters.’

She went on to explain: ’When you work on the show, you can’t really talk about certain things. But I’m really proud of what I did and proud to leave on what I think has been a brilliant series, with great winners.’

2:22: A Ghost Story is at the Criterion Theatre in London now.
