Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s trial is getting the TV movie treatment.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star successfully sued his ex-wife for defamation over an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018, in which she discussed her experiences with domestic abuse.

Although the 59-year-old actor wasn’t named in the article, Depp’s lawyers argued that it implied he was violent towards her during their relationship, which he has vehemently denied.

Now, Tubi is working on a film about the court battle, entitled Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial.

Days of Our Lives alumni Mark Hapka will play Depp in the movie – which is due to drop on September 30 – with former American Horror Story actress Megan Davis portraying Heard.

Late Night With Conan O’Brien writer Guy Nicolucci will pen the script, and Sarah Lohman – who has helmed Lifetime’s Secrets in the Woods – is set to direct.

In a statement, Adam Lewinson – Tubi’s chief content officer – said: ‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial has Hot Take in the title for a reason.

‘With our partners at MarVista, this Tubi Original was fast-tracked into production to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.’

Meanwhile, Melissa Marty will appear as Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez, and Marry Carrig will play Heard’s counsel Elaine Bredehoft.

After a six-week trial, which was live-streamed on YouTube with millions watching around the world, a jury found in Depp’s favour and he was awarded $8 million of the $50 million he sought in damages.

Meanwhile, Aquaman actress Heard won one of her counter claims and was given $2 million of the $100 million countersuit.

She has since launched an appeal, switching up her legal team by hiring new lawyers in preparation, while Depp has followed suit with his own appeal, which was filed in July.
